Born to an uncaring mother on Lo in the mid-hive, Jericus had a troubled childhood from the get go. With a single parent who would rather drink herself to sleep, than care for him, and hanging with the wrong groups would lead Jericus to a premature death at the hands of an enemy gang or the electric end of a shock-maul. By some strange luck, or perhaps even the guiding hand of The Emperor himself, he was arrested for a minor charge of arson against a stall vendor. His arrest lead to being spared the massacre that was delivered to the gang he was with, and a chance to re-think his life, albeit in a cell at the local Arbiter precinct.

He found his calling soon after release. Regiments were being mustered as per the tithe, and they needed every willing and unwilling soul to fill them. He was given a choice, join the Guard or join thousands of other criminals in back-breaking labor in the Imperial Navy. Jericus decided he’d rather fight it out than work himself to death. During his basic training, he found his new hobby in demolitions and was immediately marked for further specialist training as a sapper.

Jericus’ superiors have noted him for his obsession with explosives, and how well he can use them in a multitude of situations. Despite that, he was also seen as a maniac in the Regiment, where his fellow sappers saw their work as another job to get done, Jericus thought of it as an art. For several years he served with distinction, it also helped that the Munitorum screwed up their explosives allotment to his Regiment several times, giving him more than enough material to get the job done. He earned two recommendations, one for valor under fire, and one for fierce courage against overwhelming odds.

That all changed when his Regiment was on leave on Baraspine. Jericus was approached by an agent of the Inquisition, for a dangerous assignment that had need of his “expertise.” Given no choice in the matter, he could only comply. Thankfully, the assignment was to destroy a moderately sized manufactorum in the lower reaches of one of the hives, which meant he was going to make something explode magnificently. He even had help in the way of three armed acolytes. The only problem was that it was heavily guarded; nothing’s ever easy. Using haphazardly guarded under-passages, Jericus and his little team snuck into the manufactorum, killed many of its guards and successfully planted enough fyceline-related material to blow the place to pieces. Thus began his work with the Inquisition.
